Elnix

Seiko's electronic balance-wheel watch — a battery-powered but fully mechanical movement (balance wheel and pallet fork driven by a coil and transistor, no quartz crystal), a hybrid technology Seiko hedged with before quartz took over. Built on Suwa's caliber 0703A running at a high 28,800 bph, it evolved from the earlier EL-370 (caliber 3700). Note the date nuance: while commonly tied to 1972, the Elnix appears in the 1974–76 domestic catalogues and had vanished by 1977; both EL-370 and Elnix are displayed at the Seiko Museum.
